The first meeting of UFPMO, supported by the European Union of Medical Specialists (EUMS)
The first meeting of the Chamber of Specialists of the Ukrainian Federation of Professional Medical Organizations (UFPMO), supported by the European Union of Medical Specialists (EUMS), was held in Kyiv on September 19, 2023.
This is a crucial step in the advancement of the Ukrainian healthcare sector towards European benchmarks. The meeting was attended by over 90 professional medical organizations, UFPMO members, state officials, the Ministry of Health, and partners in the advancement of medical science.
Professor Vassilos Papalois, President of EUMS, was the guest of honor. After a minute of silence, the Chairman of the Special Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykhailo Borysovych Radutskyi, the Minister of Health Viktor Kyrylovych Liashko, and the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, Oleksii Stanislavovych Soloviov, addressed the participants with welcoming words.
During a recent discussion, Professor Yurii Ivanovych Feshchenko, the Head of the Chamber of Specialists of the UFPMO, Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and Doctor of Medical Sciences, explored the potential future of the Ukrainian medical industry under the European model of professional self-governance.

During the lecture, the professor highlighted the importance of doctors, employers, and professional associations sharing responsibility for professional self-governance. The UFPMO strives to create a system that supports doctors’ continuous professional development.
During a presentation by Professor Vassilos Papalois, the President of EUMS, it was emphasized that EUMS’s open position is of great importance and that there is a need for cross-border mobilization of resources in medicine. Ukrainian colleagues were warmly invited to participate in all aspects of the work. Ukraine’s EUMS model plans to set standards for medical specialties, evaluate training quality and educational programs, provide accreditation and advocacy.

During the presentation, various experts shared their reports on the idea. Some of the presenters included Ihor Dmytrovych Shkrobanets from the Academy of Medical Sciences, Viacheslav Volodymyrovych Kaminskyi, who is currently the acting rector of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences and an academician, and Mykola Heorhiiovych Prodanchuk, who is the Vice President of the Federation and a Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor.
Svitlana Yaremchuk, the General Secretary of the UFPMO, emphasized the importance of new approaches to training doctors in light of modern war-related challenges. In a recent meeting, Professor Feshchenko Yurii Ivanovych emphasized the importance of improving the medical profession in Ukraine to enhance healthcare standards.
As a result of the productive meeting, the UFPMO Chamber of Specialists made progress by leveraging expertise, exchanging opinions, and receiving support from European partners. The European Union of Medical Specialists (EUMS) is the oldest international medical organization in Europe, which unites medical specialists and specialists in various fields of medicine from EU countries. The main goal of EUMS is the support and development of medical specialization, setting standards in the field of medical education and practice.
The Ukrainian Federation of Professional Medical Organizations (UFPMO) is an association of professional medical organizations in Ukraine. It was created for coordination and cooperation between various specialized medical organizations and associations that represent the interests of medical specialists in various fields.
