Embarking on a Promising Path: Unlocking Internship Opportunities in 2023

In 2023, enrollment and placement in internships will be carried out according to an algorithm based on the rating created by the institution of higher education (HEI). This is a procedure for graduates of the budgetary form of education.

To enroll «budget workers» the following algorithm is followed:

1. The health care departments of local military administrations provide the Ministry of Health with a list of vacancies for intern doctors at internship bases.

2. The Ministry of Health informs the institution of higher education (HEI) about the number of state-ordered places for interns by specialty, separately for each region.

3. Higher education institutions evaluate graduates based on academic performance, family, and health status. In the institution of higher education (HEI), commissions are formed to distribute graduates, which include the rector, vice-rectors, deans, and heads of departments, representatives of student self-government and professional associations, and the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health’s representatives.

Commissions provide graduates with proposals for majors and places of internship no later than two weeks before graduation.

As a graduate, what are the next steps to take?

If you accepted an internship offer, you will receive a referral from your Higher Education Institution. However, if you declined the offer and informed the institution in writing, you will receive a certificate acknowledging your independent choice of internship location.

Once you have received the referral, you can submit your documents to the Healthcare Department for admission to the position of an intern doctor at the medical facility where your internship will take place.

As a graduate seeking to complete an internship, you have the opportunity to select the institution you wish to intern at – be it a private or state medical institution. Once you have made your selection, you must reach out to your supervisor and provide the necessary documentation to confirm your enrollment.

To be eligible for the educational aspect of the internship training, you must submit your application and all other required documents to the Higher Education Institution no later than July 20.

It is important to note that you must physically be present at the institution where the practical training takes place no later than August 1. Additionally, you must be present at the higher education institution by no later than September 1.

If you are seeking to enroll as a budget intern for the internship, it is imperative that the Healthcare Department, the institution of higher education, or the head of the internship base enroll you no later than August 1.

In which cases and by whom should an enrollment order be issued?

The Department of Health Care should issue it when interns pass the practical portion of their training at communal medical institutions. Meanwhile, institutions of higher education should issue it for intern doctors who complete the practical portion of their training and are sponsored by individuals or legal entities.

If a graduate is placed as an intern at a state-owned medical institution, the head of the internship base is responsible for overseeing the program. However, for «contract» students who receive a certificate about their form of study, they have the freedom to choose their own place of internship.

It is important to note that the deadlines for submitting applications and other required documents, as well as the enrollment process for interns are the same for both budgetary and contract forms of education.
