Celebrating Excellence: Ministry of Health of Ukraine Honors 275 Exceptional Specialists and Nurses
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, in collaboration with the Center for Nursing Development and with the support of WHO, hosted the «Voice of Nursing Leaders» practical conference on nursing and midwifery leadership as part of the #HealthyTogether initiative of the Minister of Health.
The event, held on May 12 in honor of International Nurse’s Day, welcomed 120 nursing specialists from all regions of Ukraine, as well as experts from Romania, Israel, and the USA who shared their valuable nursing experiences.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine have demonstrated the resilience and adaptability of Ukrainian nurses and midwives in the face of extraordinary challenges. Their contributions to the healthcare system are invaluable. To ensure the continued success of healthcare transformation, it is crucial to have skilled and knowledgeable nursing leaders. The improvement of medical care hinges on leaders who can embrace and implement the latest trends, empathize with the needs of nurses, and facilitate the modernization of the system.
The event had three main objectives:
Firstly, to recognize the significance of nursing and midwifery leaders by identifying their essential components and roles.
Secondly, to familiarize head nurses, who represent nurses from different regions in Ukraine, with leadership principles and skills.
Lastly, to encourage sharing of experiences among current nursing and midwifery managers regarding their challenges and opportunities.
During the event, Viktor Liashko, the Minister of Health of Ukraine, expressed his gratitude to the industry leaders from various fields and acknowledged the dedication of the doctors who continue to work tirelessly in spite of the challenging circumstances.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine awarded 275 nursing specialists with honorary awards this year for their professionalism and commitment to their profession. Among the awardees were professionals who demonstrated exceptional leadership in extreme and unusual circumstances. This includes those who worked during the occupation and under constant fire from the Russian army, those who were close to combat zones, those who had to handle excessive workload, and those who continued to implement innovative approaches despite the war.
