Revolutionizing Healthcare in Border Villages: Exploring the Impact of HomeDoctor Telemedicine Systems in Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Chernihiv Regions

In response to the challenges posed by martial law, the implementation of telemedicine solutions has significantly improved patients’ access to quality medical care. Addressing this need, the public organization Help to Ukraine (Spain) has generously provided 20 units of HomeDoctor telemedicine systems. Developed by the Spanish startup HomeDoctor during the COVID-19 pandemic, these innovative systems have proven instrumental in overcoming lockdown restrictions and have gained popularity both domestically and internationally.

The telemedicine platform allows doctors and patients to remotely conduct basic examinations independently using telemedical diagnostic devices. This includes measuring temperature, pressure, saturation, performing ECG, and examining the ears, throat, nose, and skin.

Initially, telemedicine equipment was deployed in the Zaporizhzhya and Poltava regions. Subsequently, it was extended to the Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, prioritizing distribution among paramedics in towns and villages located in close proximity to the Ukrainian-Russian border.

Oleg Hlushchenko, the head of the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine in Bilopylla city, Sumy region, highlights the significance of deploying HomeDoctor telemedicine systems to villages near the Russian border. Due to the frequent artillery shelling, many residents are unable to access the local dispensary, resulting in worsened cardiovascular conditions and increased blood pressure. Additionally, the presence of COVID-19 cases further emphasizes the importance of remote healthcare services.

In a recent video meeting with representatives from the non-governmental organization Help to Ukraine, including founders Carlos Fernandez and Javier Fernandez Vitoria, discussions were held to expand the telemedicine equipment available for Ukraine. This collaborative effort aims to further enhance healthcare accessibility and support in the region.
