Advancing Medical Education and Research: Insights from the UFPMO’s Academic Council Meeting
A meeting of the Academic Council was held with the participation of 78 members. Unfortunately, due to ongoing shelling from an aggressor country, the meeting had to be conducted online. However, it was determined that postponing the meeting was not an option as important decisions needed to be made that would impact our future.
We had the honor of hosting distinguished guests such as Mykhailo Borisovych Radutskyi, Chairman of the VRU Committee, Serhii Hennadiiovych Ubohov, Director of the Ministry of Health, and Tetiana Mykolaivna Donchenko, representative of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
As part of our duties, we have recently accomplished several important tasks. These include electing the Secretary and three deputy Chairmen of the Academic Council for UFPMO, approving the «Regulations on the Academic Council» establishing criteria for delegation to Council members, agreeing on the Chamber of Specialists list, approving candidates for the Ministry of Health’s expert groups, and electing Chairmen and members of permanent commissions and subcommittees. Additionally, our President, Viacheslav Kaminskyi, presented a project outlining areas of cooperation with the Ministry of Health in 2022.
According to the decision made during Meeting No. 8 on August 11, 2022, by the UFPMO Board, Olena Ihorivna Kovzun has been appointed as the Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism named after V.P. Commissar of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Kovzun is a Doctor of Biological Sciences.
As per the Decision of the Board of the UFPMO at its eighth meeting held on August 11, 2022, three distinguished medical professionals were recommended and accepted for the position of Deputy Chairs of the Academic Council of the UFPMO.
The first Deputy Chair, Ihor Dmytrovych Shkrobanets, is a doctor of medical sciences and a professor who will oversee the determination of priorities and coordination of joint actions of UFPMO member associations in organizing and conducting scientific research.
The second Deputy Chair, Tetiana Feofanivna Tatarchuk, is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, and corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She will be responsible for determining the priorities and coordination of joint actions of UFPMO member associations in creating an evidence-based scientific base.
The third Deputy Chair, Viktor Ivanovych Stepanenko, is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Dermatology at the Bogomolets National Medical University, and a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He will lead the determination of priorities and coordination of joint actions of UFPMO member associations in selecting directions for the development of the scientific activity, involving international partners, participating in international projects, and searching for various sources of funding.
The selection of these distinguished professionals comes after careful consideration of their experience, skills, and expertise, and the UFPMO looks forward to working with them to achieve its objectives.
During the meeting, the Board of the UFPMO accepted the proposals regarding the “Regulations on the Academic Council of the UFPMO” through an open vote. The Scientific Council Chairman, Academician, and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Mykola Dmytrovych Tronko, presented the topics of priorities, coordination, and directions for joint actions among UFPMO members in scientific activities. He also discussed the opportunities to attract international grants and funding sources.
The Vice-President of the UFPMO and Head of the Committee on Legal Issues and Protection of the Interests of Members, Iryna Volodymyrivna Sysoienko, provided an explanation of the articles of the draft Law on Self-Government in the Medical Professions.
Furthermore, Tetiana Volodymyrivna Talaieva, a doctor of medical sciences and professor, was elected to lead the Ethics and Deontology Commission, which oversees the implementation and enforcement of the Code of Ethics for medical workers in Ukraine.
In a recent development, the commissions on innovative development of the medical industry and cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the scientific community have a new leader in the form of Oleksandr Mykolayovych Parkhomenko. The doctor of medical sciences, professor, and corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine will now oversee the workings of these commissions.
Meanwhile, Mykola Lvovych Ankin has taken the reins of the commission for innovative development of the medical industry and the subcommittee for financing in the field of medical science.
Additionally, a commission has been formed to provide scientific support for military medicine, which will be chaired by Ihor Anatoliiovych Lurin. Lurin is a doctor of medical sciences, professor, academician, and vice president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
